The city has a total area of 11.70 square miles (30.30 km2), of which 11.67 square miles (30.23 km2) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 km2) is water, according to the United States Census Bureau. Shoreline also has a gated neighborhood, The Highlands, which is self-sufficient in terms of utilities. Richmond Beach is located in the city’s northwest corner, about at 47.7695415°N 122.3901313°W.
Shoreline’s 25 parks comprise 330 acres (130 hectares). Boeing Creek flows through Shoreview Park, which borders Shoreline Community College, on its way to Hidden Lake and Puget Sound.
According to the local government’s categorization, Shoreline is divided into 14 neighborhoods. The neighborhood boundaries have been roughly rectangular in shape, following street maps rather than socioeconomic or natural limits.
The city maintains a neighborhood council with the goal of bringing together community leaders from each neighborhood to debate and coordinate city programs that affect them.
