Bellevue houses a few of the biggest technology firms in the world. Before 2008, its downtown area experienced fast transformation as a result of the construction of numerous high-rise buildings and was mostly unscathed by the economic slump. Downtown Bellevue is now Washington state’s 2nd biggest city center, with 1,300 enterprises, 45,000 workers, and 10,200 residents. The median household income, according to a 2018 estimate, was among the top 5 in Washington state. Bellevue was placed first on CNNMoney’s 2008 list of the greatest locations to live and start a business and was again ranked 4th in 2010. In 2014, USA Today named Bellevue as the 2nd best city to live in.
Bellevue has been home to more than 145 businesses; presently, PACCAR Inc, T-Mobile, and Valve are headquartered in the City. Jeff Bezos launched the e-commerce company Amazon in Bellevue.
Bellevue is the economic core of the Seattle area’s Eastside and is home to a variety of corporate offices, including the United States operations of numerous international corporations. Since 2005, the city has developed a reputation as a center for software engineering and other types of technological development. SAP Concur, Expedia, T-Mobile US, Symetra, PACCAR Inc, and Eddie Bauer are just a few of these companies. Bellevue is home to a lot of satellite offices for prominent technological businesses like Oracle, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, and eBay; Microsoft was formerly based in the City of Bellevue but has since relocated to Redmond, Washington. The Pokémon Company, Sucker Punch Productions, Valve, Sucker Punch Productions, and Bungie, The Pokémon Company all have their headquarters in the City as well.
Facebook and Amazon revealed intentions in 2019 to establish massive engineering centers in Bellevue, bringing numerous thousand jobs with them. Google also constructed a significant engineering site in Bellevue in 2018. By 2020, numerous high-rise office buildings in Downtown Bellevue will be completed or in active planning and design, particularly Bellevue 600, which will be part of a large Amazon complex. Many high-rise residential structures are also scheduled for downtown, prompted in part by the prospect of future light rail transit, on formerly vacant retail and low-rise commercial lands.
